Benefits & Description
10 Day Drinking Supply | Food-Grade Plastic - BPA Free | Stackable
• Safe drinking water for your family
These containers hold a 10 day drinking water supply for one person shielding you from dehydration during natural disasters or even when public water supplies have become contaminated. • High-quality container
This container is made from 100% non-toxic food-grade HDPE, and is completely BPA free. • Long-term water storage
The opaque material on these containers prevent bacterial growth so your water stays cleaner. • Stack and save space
Stackable water containers enable you to store an adequate water supply while still saving floor space for other emergency supplies!Storing emergency water just got a little bit easier! Water is the most important element of survival, yet if you are storing water in old milk jugs around your house, it gets messy. Plus, the plastic on water jugs is thin, flimsy, and easily pierced which makes them impractical to store for a natural disaster situation.
These 5-gallon water containers are made from a sturdy 100% food-grade plastic (BPA free) meaning they will hold up during an emergency. The opaque material prevents bacterial growth so you won't need to scrub the container every month in order to retain a clean water supply and because they are stackable, these water containers don't take up a lot of floor space, giving you room for other emergency supplies.
The average recommended water amount per person falls into three different categories. Those categories are Drinking Water, Cleaning and Hygiene, and Cooking. The Institute of Medicine advised that men should consume roughly 3 liters (about 13 cups) and women should consume 2.2 liters (about 9 cups) of water per day. For cleaning and hygiene it's recommended to have 2 cups or 16 oz for one day. For water used for cooking, it can vary on how much water is used if you have Freeze Dried, Dehydrated or Tsogo. To make things simple, we recommend to have 4 Cups or 32 oz worth of water for cooking.
PLEASE NOTE: To avoid leaking, tighten cap well. The vast majority are able to do so by hand. For those that are not able to fasten the cap tight enough by hand, we recommend using channel locks and Teflon Tape as needed. . - What's in the Box?

On a side note to buyers: I recommend buying extra caps. Although these are very well built, it is always good to have extras if one cracks from long term wear and tear. As with all parts that are mechanical or experience wear and tear, buy spares!

From The Ready Store:
Dean, any plastic container if stored on concrete will eventually take on a different flavor. You can avoid this by putting a layer in between like plywood, carpet, or other similar materials.

I would suggest getting a couple extra lids and spouts so you have them set up before you need them, one for use in the kitchen and one for upstairs.
I ordered four which came in one box. I will order eight more as I am able. It feels nice to finally be somewhat prepared for any disaster.

Of my 6 containers only 1 has had a leak problem I could not fix with repeated attempts to tighten or switch lids, which started about 3 years ago. 1 defect out of 6 in 5 years is not too bad.
The spigot did not come with a lid with the hole bored, nor its own seal gasket, so order an extra lid and be prepared to drill or cut. I used a styrofoam ring from the top of a new pack of DVDs to seal the spigot connection and it has worked great for years now.
As for the taste, when I first got these containers, the taste of plastic was overpowering and obvious. It took a couple years of replacing the water over and over as I originally used them as my rotating emergency/daily water supply. Now they have a very faint taste of plastic that is almost subtle and sweet.
As a daily supply it can be tedious or difficult for women or the elderly to move or adjust their position. In my house we would always rest it on its side to dispense water and then tip it back so the lid was on top when not in use since the leak I had was a slow one and i didn't think to label the leaky container until later. If this was forgotten we found a large puddle in the morning. Also the rather thin handles tend to hurt your hand when carrying them any distance full. I have yet to widen the grip or rubberize them, but I may try.
Despite these problems I have yet to find any better, BPA free, stackable, 5 gallon, sturdy containers. I plan to purchase 10 more soon.

My one complaint would be that 5 of the 11 lids I got had at least some sections of the tamper-proof ring broken off - none completely, but a few were just barely still attached. I'm not going to bother buying replacement lids since I'm not really that concerned that it'll be tampered with, but a little surprising. I do wish I had purchased a spigot though - now I have to pay S&H for just that one item.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if I feel like I needed them. Good product.

From The Ready Store:
Stephen, we do have the estimated ship dates when you put an item in the shopping cart. When they are long times they are bolded and in red. Right now we are down to under a week and the ship time message is bolded and in green font. On the other hand, competitors usually only say if the item is going to ship in normal production or it is on backorder, whereas we actually put specific ship times for EACH product so in my opinion we actually have the most accurate and detailed information out there.

From The Ready Store:
Clifford,
I just went to Walmart.com and did a search for "aquatainer by Reliance" and noticed that it's $19 not $12, maybe you got it on sale?
Something else I noticed in comparing these two products is theirs is only 4 gallons as opposed to 5 gallons with our container. Also ours is not transparent which means that bacteria growth would happen much sooner in the AquaTainer which makes ours better for emergency water storage. Walrmart.com does state the AquaTainer was designed to be put in fridges for dispensing drinking water so it looks like the two products are not as similar as they seem.
Thanks,

I had purchased 5 of these 7 years ago and really liked those until they froze during a trip which stretched the plastic and caused them leech whatever into the water. Never could remove the bad taste. Expensive lesson!
I use these daily as I live in an RV and get my great tasting water from the RO machine at the park.
Recently ordered two more. Cleaned/rinsed with vinegar n baking soda, let dry, and filled with water. By the third day of use, water has that undesirable, unhealthy plastic taste and my throat was irritated soon after. Ugh!
I can only imagine what water would taste like if actually store for a long period of time; which seems to be the intended purpose.
Also, unlike the old ones, the area designed to punch an air hole in was very thick and very hard to puncture. Didn't want to drill to avoid plastic pieces in the jug. Finally had to use a hammer and a punch. Kinda ridiculous.
Not sure if The Ready Store is aware of this. Perhaps I received a bad batch? Maybe. But how would I know?
Can ANYONE make quality products anymore??? I'm soooo fed up with poor quality products these days! And it doesn't matter how much money you pay. Prices go up, quality goes down.
So, you've be warned. If you decide to take a chance be sure to test the quality by letting water sit for a few days before you store. Thanks for reading.
Oh, forgot to mention...Stack-ability and over-all design gets 4 stars, but so what, water taste like crap!
Response from The Ready Store:
Hi James,
We're sorry to hear that you are experiencing bad flavored water and trouble with the lid. We have sold thousands of the 5-Gallon Water Container's

We recommend making sure your water source is clean and free from impurities and also that the container has been cleaned
properly and that all soap residue has been washed out entirely.
Also, if you are having a difficult time punching holes in the lid, we are offer pre-drilled lids and spigots on our website. See the link
