Saved my booth!
So I run a craft booth at my church fair every summer & last year my tent almost was blown away! Talking over with one of my girl friends she told me to use my water containers I had in my food storage. Never really intended to use them like that but I gave it a go & my tent stayed firm & the kids loved the crafts.
Perfect for water storage in my small home!
I looked around for the best way to store water in my space-challenged home. I love the stacking feature of these jugs! I use the water preserver sold on this site, and stack these containers easily in the corners of my closets. You can't do that with a jug with a spout on top! I also bought a couple spigots sold on this site and taped them to the side so that they will be handy when I need to use the water. Plus, I love that they are light enough for me to carry when full. Highly recommend this product!
I had been shopping for water storage containers found these I intend to purchase 2 more.
I filled 10 of these last week for my family of four and can't begin to describe the piece of mind knowing that I have enough water for 2 weeks. I like that these are extremely portable in case we have to evacuate -- not sure how I'd ever manage moving a 55 gallon tank, especially if I happened to be alone at home with my 2 toddlers. The portable size also makes them very easy to store in random places throughout the house. I used one bottle of water preserver for all the bottles, so am good for the next 5 years!
Well constructed, heavy duty plastic, stack-able container at a great price!
I just completed filling eighteen of these units using the water preserver also sold here. They are excellent in their design and construction and the stacking feature is what sold me on these. I used and recommend a rubber strap wrench (available at auto parts stores) to get the caps nice and tight, and didn't have any issues with leaks. I will definitely buy some more in the nearfuture
Great item for camping
I have a cabin and take these 5 gal containers when I go there and they work great for drinking water, showers, or washing things. The thing I like best is that they are stackable.
Solid portable container!
I had been looking for some nice 5-gallon containers to store water in for ease of use (Compared to a 55-gallon drum!) and bought 8 of these. This product is great heavy duty, has a strong seal, and stacks well. Although thereadystore forgot to ship the caps with my order I called customer service and they were very polite, listened well, and apologized. They shipped out the 8 caps and I received them six days later. I will shop here again... actually I already have.
On a side note to buyers: I recommend buying extra caps. Although these are very well built, it is always good to have extras if one cracks from long term wear and tear. As with all parts that are mechanical or experience wear and tear, buy spares!
a query, actually, if anyone cares to respond ...
I'm considering replacing the water jugs at the cabin because they impart a plastic taste to the water. Do these water jugs impart any plastic taste after long periods of storage?
Same question as the one below...
I love the portability and stackability of these water jugs... I was just hoping that there would be a response to the question left by Jambie below. If the water is stored in these jugs for a long time, will the water end up tasting and smelling like plastic? Thanks for your response, and I look forward to purchasing a bunch of these containers.
From The Ready Store:
Dean, any plastic container if stored on concrete will eventually take on a different flavor. You can avoid this by putting a layer in between like plywood, carpet, or other similar materials.

Look no further
Someone put a lot of thought in designing these containers and whoever it was should get a weeks paid vacation. My water storage plan included containers that would be portable, easy to manuever, stackable to save space, durable and of good quality. This container meets every expectation I have. The only preparatory task you have to do is drill a small vent hole and rinse the container out. Then fill it with water. I purchased a couple spare lids, a couple spigots and the water preserver which will provide for a longer shelf life of the water. I highly recommend this water container - 5 stars.
A "must buy!"
Love them! Easy to move to where water will be used. Easy to store. I figure on using one container per day for our family of three just for drinking and cooking. Have not tipped them on their side to use yet.
I would suggest getting a couple extra lids and spouts so you have them set up before you need them, one for use in the kitchen and one for upstairs.
I ordered four which came in one box. I will order eight more as I am able. It feels nice to finally be somewhat prepared for any disaster.
Excellent product, excellent service!
One thing only. I was also interested in a "dispensing pump" for the drums. Your syphon pump did not fill my needs, so I searched and found "plastic pail pumps" that I could use to access the stored water in a convenient way. You might consider carrying these.
From The Ready Store:
John, how did the syphon not meet your need? Feel free to email me at genek at thereadystore .com with product feedback.

I purchased four of these containers and they stack very nicely in a corner of my apartment without taking up much room. I would definitely purchase more.
I purchased four of these containers and they stack very nicely in a corner of my apartment without taking up much room. I will purchase more of them later.
I purchased 6 of the stackable water containers. They are very durable and the price was great.
Happy with Purchase
I feel more secure knowing that I have 20 gallons of drinking water availble is needed. I plan to order one of the 55 gallon drums also.
Solid well thought out piece of gear.
Definitely worth the price, could easily last a lifetime or two with proper care. Accessories make it easy to use around camp for hygiene etc..
This is so light and sturdy that I could carry it on the back of my bike. The handle is out of the way and yet available to use with a tie-down.
Very convenient, each container not being to heavy filled with water for anyone to carry, they stack well with each other making it easy to store anywhere, durable plastic and ready to go. I going to order more of these. From my last disaster, I learned you can never have too much water, water is gold!
beats buying those water bottles and having to check when each expires. Nice to have easily stackable and know they wont fall over or crush themselves.
These 5 gal. stackable water containers give our family peace of mind.
COUPLED WITH YOUR 5 YEAR WATER PRESERVOR WE ARE ASSURED A SAFE, CONVENIENT WATER SUPPLY. THE CONTAINERS ARE CONSTRUCTED OF VERY DURABLE SAFE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION WATER STORAGE. I WOULD RECOMMEND A FEW 2.5 GAL CONTAINERS TO GO ALONG WITH THE 5 GAL. ONES FOR THOSE NOT HEARTY ENOUGH TO CARRY 5 GALLONS.
Problems, but still the Best Option
I bought 6 of these water containers a little over 5 years ago. As the other reviews have stated these are excellent for water storage space efficiency. Their square shape and stacking ability make them ideal for getting as much water into the corner of your preparedness space as possible, while still giving your the option of being able to move the water. They are also very durable and well designed.
Of my 6 containers only 1 has had a leak problem I could not fix with repeated attempts to tighten or switch lids, which started about 3 years ago. 1 defect out of 6 in 5 years is not too bad.
The spigot did not come with a lid with the hole bored, nor its own seal gasket, so order an extra lid and be prepared to drill or cut. I used a styrofoam ring from the top of a new pack of DVDs to seal the spigot connection and it has worked great for years now.
As for the taste, when I first got these containers, the taste of plastic was overpowering and obvious. It took a couple years of replacing the water over and over as I originally used them as my rotating emergency/daily water supply. Now they have a very faint taste of plastic that is almost subtle and sweet.
As a daily supply it can be tedious or difficult for women or the elderly to move or adjust their position. In my house we would always rest it on its side to dispense water and then tip it back so the lid was on top when not in use since the leak I had was a slow one and i didn't think to label the leaky container until later. If this was forgotten we found a large puddle in the morning. Also the rather thin handles tend to hurt your hand when carrying them any distance full. I have yet to widen the grip or rubberize them, but I may try.
Despite these problems I have yet to find any better, BPA free, stackable, 5 gallon, sturdy containers. I plan to purchase 10 more soon.
I actually use these for my aquarium maintenance business. I can bring all the water I need for the maintenance tasks. I do have 2 that I use for potable water storage, and they do what they are supposed to do......store water.
This item is a must have for water storage if you don't have the space for big drums. Very durable, well made, compact and very convenient. I would highly recommend these to someone who is looking into storing water.
The compact shape and durable plastic make these water jugs perfect for storing water in case of emergencies. I purchased the spigots too for instant running water the next time the power goes out.
Perfect! With a weight of approximately 42Lbs. when filled, this container is light enough to move and store easily. The container appears to be very durable, an important feature for long-term water storage. Also, the container's opacity allows me to store my water outdoors under my carport without being concerned about light exposure. The Ready Store's price is the lowest I've found for this type of container, which is a great help with the budget.
Perfect product for storing water without having enough space to get 50+ gallon drums. Great quality and nice that you can stack them as well.
I live in a very small space with limited storage options. I love that they stack! They fit perfectly behind my couch. I will definitely be ordering more.
These are nice to have around for just in case, any bigger and I would not be able to handle the weight, so this fits nicely. Only thing I found odd was that you have to poke a hole to start using it, so make sure not to loose the little cap so you will be able to store it again.
Very durable product
I was impressed with the thickness of the plastic plus,it's just enought to lift and carry anywhere. I also bought the 30 gallon container for my home.
Best way to store water
Stack well and at 40 lbs full you can still move it. I think this is the way to go esp if you're not sure where you're gonna stay.
Peace of mind
I have filled 8 of these with the preserver and I have real peace of mind. If my pump doesn't work I still have good water.
I have 4 of these so far and I feel they are a great product. Good construction and tamper proof seal. This holds5 gallons, so technically is enough drinking water for 1 person for ten days, but in an emergency, that could be stretched out several more days. I plan to order more of these for my family of 4.
I love the fact that these stack and do not take up very much space! Perfect size for a closet!
good quality, more practical (stacks) than camping store version
this version stacks, and is more retangular so it fits in the car better when loaded down. I'll buy more. A good recommendation i saw for water storage with practical rotation in mind: keep these *empty* and fill from your larger containers if/when it's needed.
Perfect for Apartments
I live in a 2 bedroom apartment. I wanted to ensure during an emergency, my girlfriend, my dog, and I had enough water to survive a while. I purchased 8 of these, and they all fit in my closet in my office. The stackable feature is unlike any others, and saves a ton of room. They are light enough to move around. One recommendation, is get a rubber strap wrench to close these. They are very difficult to completely close without. It also hurts your hand to try and torque these on. Save your hands the hurt, and use the wrench. Going to purchase more soon!!!
I use this containers to haul salt water for my aquarium, during normal times and hod fresh water when Hurricanes come. These are the most durable water container I have found (2nd only to the military water cans). The fact that I can safely stack them (full and empty) makes them excellent. I beat up these container more then the average person and they are proving there worth.
Avoid the mistake of not purchase separate lids.
These water container are as advertised BUT be aware that just buying the container don't come with the white lid as shown. Now I have to repurchase the lids for the 4 containers that I ordered and the shipping cost more than the 4 lids.
From The Ready Store:
Please contact our customer service department and they will ship out free lids. Each container does come with a lid, it looks like there was a shipping mistake. I would contact you but you didn't leave your email address or name so I can not look you up in our system.
Thanks and sorry for the mishap.
The Ready Store
Easily portable, but heavy........have a man do it :0)
Excellent product for long tern water storage & camping.
The delivery was cheap & fast. Product met my high expectations. My friends like them and will order some more, I got a bunch for myself. Could not find better product for long term water storage.
Good For Storage
We got these to store water long term, knowing we would run the agua through the Berkey before actually drinking. They stack well, although we do need to put them next to a wall and shelves just in case they become tipsy. I recommend.
much better than cases of bottled water
they stack easily and don't take up to much room in the garage can also grab and go if need be
Great storage product
these are great size for water stoage and a great value when on sale.
These containers are heavy duty and do not smell once rinsed with a little (very little) bleachy water.
I bought a Coleman 5 gal water container a couple years ago and we will NOT use! After several washes, even airing outside with lid off, it still smells like petro chemicals... so it is on the patio filled 3/4 full (in case of freeze) to flush the toilet with!
Big water drums were a drag
I really like how easy to move and stack these little water containers are. The big water drums were just too hard for me to deal with. They were hard to move and clean and really hard to rotate the water. These are much better.
Good containers for my purposes
I got 11 of these containers recently and have filled them up and stored them in my basement (with Water Preserver). It's good to know that I've got potable water if the need should arise. These containers are well made, very sturdy, and darker blue than the picture shown (probably a good thing - more opaque). They are the perfect size - large enough that you don't have to have a ridiculous amount of them - but small enough that they are easily portable. I was able to move two at a time down to my basement. The lids fit very tightly.
My one complaint would be that 5 of the 11 lids I got had at least some sections of the tamper-proof ring broken off - none completely, but a few were just barely still attached. I'm not going to bother buying replacement lids since I'm not really that concerned that it'll be tampered with, but a little surprising. I do wish I had purchased a spigot though - now I have to pay S&H for just that one item.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if I feel like I needed them. Good product.
Good Product - Slow delivery and poor communication
The quality of this product and its accessories are outstanding without a doubt. However, the price is a bit high but worthwhile for the intended purpose. My only complaint is the delivery time. After some searching on the website I discovered that shipments are generally completed two weeks after ordering. This was recently changed to three weeks. My delivery of four containers took almost five weeks to receive. To make matters worse, some other items as part of the order are on back order. The back order was also advised to me on the invoice received with the shipment. Disappointed with service and delivery time. Please be up front with customers and communicate better, not leaving people in the dark on their orders. We should not have to follow up numerous time on order status.
From The Ready Store:
Stephen, we do have the estimated ship dates when you put an item in the shopping cart. When they are long times they are bolded and in red. Right now we are down to under a week and the ship time message is bolded and in green font. On the other hand, competitors usually only say if the item is going to ship in normal production or it is on backorder, whereas we actually put specific ship times for EACH product so in my opinion we actually have the most accurate and detailed information out there.
The Ready Store
I like how sturdy it is and will order another when I order the spigot.
With the state of our country & economy today, i think these make good gifts. I had a couple sent to a niece who lives in a large city. I also sent food. I've been concerned about her safety in an emergency. Now I know that she'll have water and food if she ever needs it. I believe in being prepared and also helping loved ones. Great product!
This container is a good size as it's portable yet holds a lot of water. it stacks well. don't forget to buy the water stabilizer.
I baught 3 of these 5 gallon stackable water containers I cant belive how well built they are I can stand on them and they will hold all 200 pounds of my weight so i know they will last me for several years also becareful when filling and stacking them they will weigh over 40 pounds each when full
I bought these after shopping around and am very pleased. So much so that I bought a few more for my son.
A tad pricey but can't be beat if space is an issue
You can get 6-gallon UN-stackable food-grade water containers for a good bit less at any retail outlet, but if you plan on storing 50+ gallons or so, you can't beat these for the stacking/space issue it solves. Also, since water is about 7 lbs per gallon if you're going to be mobile, most people can carry these even if full and if you have a bad back - as I do. The sealing screw-top lid is a great feature as well since you know if it has been opened or tampered with. My only suggestion would be to add or sell replacement caps separately to make these easy to re-use. They're made of very thick plastic and appear quite durable.
Good insurance and you have to pay it only once.
Seems kind of expensive but I don't see how food grade containers of this quality could be sold for less. I don't want to need them but I'm glad we hae them. I have recommended them to my relatives who are concerned about possible interruption of vital services.
The Ready Store proviides great prices and quality products..BUT..bought two of these recently. BOTH leak when upside down and shaken some. Would prefer spending more $$ for Coleman..etc.. and avoid possible issues.
*from The Ready Store: Please call our customer service line at 1-800-773-5331 (I can't contact you since you logged this review as a guest which provides me with no contact info for you)
It sounds like your containers did not come with the gaskets. When in place and tightened down these containers do not leak, even when held upside down and shaken. Nonetheless thanks for the feedback, we look forward to helping you with this issue.
Can buy less expensive
Sorry "Ready Store"; this one is a NO for me. Walmart has almost the same thing (AquaTainer by Reliance) for under $12, and each one comes with a spigot under the cap. They are also stackable 2-high, which is all I recommend on this type, too. I saved over $50 when I bought 10 of them for short-term water storage. Hoping to save the customers some money with this review. Again, sorry!
From The Ready Store:
I just went to Walmart.com and did a search for "aquatainer by Reliance" and noticed that it's $19 not $12, maybe you got it on sale?
Something else I noticed in comparing these two products is theirs is only 4 gallons as opposed to 5 gallons with our container. Also ours is not transparent which means that bacteria growth would happen much sooner in the AquaTainer which makes ours better for emergency water storage. Walrmart.com does state the AquaTainer was designed to be put in fridges for dispensing drinking water so it looks like the two products are not as similar as they seem.
The Ready Store
Well, I'm not impressed the second time around.
I had purchased 5 of these 7 years ago and really liked those until they froze during a trip which stretched the plastic and caused them leech whatever into the water. Never could remove the bad taste. Expensive lesson!
I use these daily as I live in an RV and get my great tasting water from the RO machine at the park.
Recently ordered two more. Cleaned/rinsed with vinegar n baking soda, let dry, and filled with water. By the third day of use, water has that undesirable, unhealthy plastic taste and my throat was irritated soon after. Ugh!
I can only imagine what water would taste like if actually store for a long period of time; which seems to be the intended purpose.
Also, unlike the old ones, the area designed to punch an air hole in was very thick and very hard to puncture. Didn't want to drill to avoid plastic pieces in the jug. Finally had to use a hammer and a punch. Kinda ridiculous.
Not sure if The Ready Store is aware of this. Perhaps I received a bad batch? Maybe. But how would I know?
Can ANYONE make quality products anymore??? I'm soooo fed up with poor quality products these days! And it doesn't matter how much money you pay. Prices go up, quality goes down.
So, you've be warned. If you decide to take a chance be sure to test the quality by letting water sit for a few days before you store. Thanks for reading.
Oh, forgot to mention...Stack-ability and over-all design gets 4 stars, but so what, water taste like crap!
