I hate rotating water in my giant 55 gallon drums, so I bought this water preserver to solve that problem. I have checked my water every year for the last couple years since I added it and I have had no problems. This little bottle has saved me a bunch of time and trouble so thank you!

I am not reviewing this, as I am just buying it. I would like to know how to use it for 5 gal. pails and 2 liter bottles (were soda bottles). I heard you can use bleach, but don't know what the ratio is, and I sure don't want to get sick or get my children sick.

Ready Store, could you tell me how to use this, and do I use the purifying tablets with it?

    Susan

    From The Ready Store:

Susan, the water preserver comes with instructions as to how much preserver to add to a certain amount of water. When it shows up follow those ratio guidelines and you should be all set.

    Thanks,

This product is perfect for what I am looking for. Dumping out water every year can be a pain and this is very convenient. Yes you can use bleach in an emergency situation, but I would not trust bleach for long term storage. Also make sure you filter your water to give it the best taste possible on a 5-year shelf life. The one question I have is does it matter if you add the preserver in before or after the water? The instructions say add to an empty container then add water, but the video instructs the user to add the drops after.

From The Ready Store: Andrew, it does not matter if yo do it before or after. You just want to make sure that if you add it after than you mix it in well. Hope that helps!

This is not a review but a question. If I purchase the water preserver now, but don't use it immediately, what is the shelf life of this product? Will it still be good in a year or two?

    From The Ready Store:

Ready elf you need to use the product by the expiration date which is usually within a year of receiving the product.

I know there's a lot of discussion as to whether or not this product is better / any different than plain bleach. Personally, I find it just plain easier to use. It's a lightweight bottle, easy to hold, use, etc. Just count the drops, couldn't be simpler. Is it more expensive than plain bleach? Yes, we're paying for convenience.

I was happy with the Water Preserver, I actually used it in my 50 gallon barrell I bought. The only thing I wish it had was better instructions on how to use it. I know it seems simple, but you never know. It is so cool that this small bottle will take care of my water for the next 5 years. Worth its weight in gold.

I really like this product. I feel much more secure using it for potable water than standard household bleach, since it is stabilized for use in potable water. I've never felt comfortable using household bleach as a preserver, since even the best quality bleach may contain impurities that could make it unsafe in drinking water. I'm also very glad to not have to rotate my emergency water supply every hurricane season. Thank you. Good product.

This bottle pays for itself. In areas of the country where water is expensive, rotating water every six months is a pain and costly. This actually saves me money by only having to do it every five years. I had to buy 8 bottles for my water storage and it still is more cost effective, nevermind time smart.

I normally dont write reviews but after seeing the last couple reviews from someone that got mad that this is more expensive than household bleach I just had to chime in... seriously this is ridiculous that someone is fretting about the cost difference between the two when the "expensive" option is so cheap. Fact is one method is approved for you to drink and another is not. That testing alone is worth it for me, I dont want to worry if the household bleach I bought is going to be ok or not... its not like this product is $100 a bottle either, sure it is more but it was MEANT for people to drink it.

I don't have enough information to be able to compare this to other water preserving products. I got this at the time that I was changing all my water over so it was convenient. It is expensive and I'm not sure where the difference is between using this and standard household bleach, but it was convenient and safe.

    From The Ready Store:

    Donna,

This product is a purified bleach that is approved for human consumption. While you can use non scented household bleach it is not meant for human consumption and has some ingredients that are not deemed safe by the Food and Drug administration.

I really had a hard time with deciding whether or not to get this one, but in the end I decided it was much better to be safe than to take my chances with industrial bleach (not all ingredients are on label). Also these little bottles are saving me hours and hours every six months. Instead of spending all my time cleaning and refilling water containers (and hurting my back) I can spend time do things I enjoy much more. That makes it well worth the extra cash for the water preserver!

Do you put another bottle in or do you then have to replace the water? When you replace "old" water, do you have to "clean" the container or decontaminate it? If so how?

    From The Ready Store:

Best solution is to replace the water after 5 years. To clean you can use a anti-bacterial soap or bleach to disinfect but the important thing is to rinse out the container really well when you are done.

Ok, this is great stuff, however, it doesn't add up. The instructions say clearly to add 8 drops per gallon AND that one bottle treats a 55 gallon barrel. I have purchased several of these over a number of yours and I actually count every drop in each bottle. The last two bottles I used contained 320 and 334 drops each only. 55 X 8 = 440 drops. I had to subsidize the remainder with bleach. Bottles prior to these 2 had 440-448 drops each.
Conversely, I did a test on a gallon of water in less than ideal conditions for a 2 year period and the water was drinkable and tasted fine with no ill effects (intentionally poor storage conditions for testing purposes).
So, it works quite well, but watch the arithmetic.

    From The Ready Store:

Thanks for the heads up, we will contact the vendor and give them the feedback and make sure that they are consistently holding up to their claim.

    Thanks,

    The Ready Store

I ordered two of these along with 6 of the 5-gallon storage jugs. I LOVE the 5-gallon jugs!! But... two things about this product: #1, it has a short shelf life and it does expire. When you get yours you will see a exp. date on it. And, it is nothing more than bleach!! Sodium hypochlorite... bleach!! The exact same thing bleach is made from.

Go ahead and buy the storage jugs as they are excellent. But, for me, I would never buy this again. I chalk it up to a learning experience, and a rather expensive one at that. Again, this is 5.25% sodium hypochlorite. Now go to your grocery store and look at what bleach is made of. (never get a scented bleach!) Same stuff, same percentage. Sorry RS, but I can not endorse this product. But I do like your other products!

*From The Ready Store: Woolval thank you for your time in leaving feedback on the water preserver. The reason we sell this product is because not only does it work it is approved by the EPA (http://water.epa.gov/drink/index.cfm). Common household bleach is an industrial-grade product that is not tested, approved, or recommended by the manufacturer for safe consumer use in drinking water. Water Preserver™ is manufactured with high-purity ingredients using a proprietary process to produce a highly effective form of stabilized and pH-balanced sodium hypochlorite. The product is safety-sealed and date-coded to insure purity and potency, and it’s guaranteed 100% effective. Most importantly it is approved and intended for human consumption.

I truly love the Ready Store, and will continue to shop here. Its just like any other retail establishment. You have to investigate what you want, then make the decision to buy or not.
After going to the EPA site you recommended we visit, I clicked on Emergency Prepardness on the left hand side. After reading the articles from the EPA, I determined that since they tell us to use Household bleach to disinfect water. They state we should not buy bleach that has colors, perfumes in it. They recommend household bleach. If you can find out where they state we can't use household bleach please respond to me and then I will offer my apologies. By the same token if you find out you are incorrect you need to remove your statement against it, just so you can decieve people for the almighty dollar. Honesty is best policy in the long run. We as customers of the RS should not purchase this product from you. You carry a great selection and my wife has been buying from you for some time, and that will not change.

*From The Ready Store: Drillon, I just want you to be clear that we never said that household bleach could not be used instead we stated that our product is tested and approved for human consumption whereas household bleach manufacturers will not make that claim on their product. That does not mean that some household bleaches would not work.

There are a lot of people that don't want to worry about buying the wrong household bleach and as a result a product like this suits their needs. We are not trying to mislead anyone in anyway with what has been written, we are merely offering a simple solution that is of value to a great deal of people, but for some they will not like it and that is ok, not everyone is the same so we try to offer a wide selection of products to meet as many people's needs as possible. The reason we don't sell ordinary bleach is we can't compete on price with your local big box retailers.

Also, since household bleach is regulated differently (likely since it is not intended for consumption) they only have to declare 98% of the contents of their formula list. That leaves ambiguity for the remaining 2% of the ingredients whereas the water preserver is meant to be consumed (obviously per the instructions on the bottle) and has passed the EPA's testing for human consumption.

Benefits & Description

5 Year Shelf-Life | Treats 50-55 Gallons | EPA Approved

Keep Your Family Safe
Water preserver purifies and keeps water bacteriologically safe so you'll stay healthy in any emergency. Feel Confident In Your Preparations
Our product is EPA registered and proven over 12 years of testing. Don’t Stress About Survival
Water preserver purifies for 5 years so you don't have to rotate every 6 months! Get Your Money’s Worth
Just .73 fluid ounces will treat 50-55 gallons of water! When it comes to extreme situations water is THE most important element for survival. Make sure your emergency water supply remains fresh with this liquid water preserver. Your body loses on average 2.5 liters of water everyday, but can handle only a loss of about 10-22% of its water weight before it becomes fatal. Typically, this loss happens within three days of dehydration! That's why just one bottle of this water preserver is a great product to have on hand!

This bottle is the perfect amount to treat traditional 55 gallon water barrels, but can also be used with smaller 1-gallon supplies so you can always have safe water available. Normally your emergency water should be dumped and rotated ever six months to one year. That can be time consuming and, when it comes to the large barrels, very awkward and difficult. With one bottle of Water Preserver, your water remains crisp and fresh for 5 years.

Check out the EPA Research Study HERE for more details and data.

NOTE: Shelf life of the bottle is 6-12 months meaning when you buy it you need to put the water preserver in your water within that time frame. Once it is put in the water your water is good for 5 years.

Natural disasters and contaminated public water supplies can happen quickly and usually without any warning. When this has happened in the past, grocery store bottled water sold out almost immediately. Don’t leave your family’s health to chance—water preserver is easy to use and inexpensive so there is no excuse not to have clean water at the ready in your family’s emergency preparedness.

Ready elf you need to use the product by the expiration date which is usually within a year of receiving the product.

I know there's a lot of discussion as to whether or not this product is better / any different than plain bleach. Personally, I find it just plain easier to use. It's a lightweight bottle, easy to hold, use, etc. Just count the drops, couldn't be simpler. Is it more expensive than plain bleach? Yes, we're paying for convenience.

It is expensive and I'm not sure where the difference is between using this and standard household bleach, but it was convenient and safe.

    Thanks,
