    throw away the phone and carry a knife, water-proof matches and a polished dog tag with a hole drilled in the center for signaling. I do at all times because trouble will find you when you least expect it.

    Cliffoprd we are under the assumption that the phone is dead or out of signal range you pile of monkey nuts. Call a friend OMG!! don't rely on friends rely on yourself!! Stay Alive!!!!!! be a victor not a victom.

    I've heard they can zero in on cellphones ,seems like you might be shooting yourself in foot if jump gun .At what point do you lose hope , give up and tear it apart.

    To granny, that is assuming you want to be found, also most phones need to be in range of a cell tower to be located and this is assuming you are not. These are good ideas. And I am sure the plastic case could contribute something...

    most cellphones are capable GPS units if yiu doenload maps ahead of time

    Yes they can locate you by pinging your phone off towers. Hopefully near three makes more accurate position. However this about broken dead or out of range. Does battery fire starter work with a dead/broken/wet battery? Plus I think their is an app that turns your iPhone into a helicopter. But seriously you can buy a stun gun case for your iPhone . Any outdoors person has basic tools. This is plan b

    The title is "How to Upcycle Your BROKEN Mobile Phone Parts into Survival Tools". So if your phone is broken it is still useful. Good tips here. Not everyone is a survivalist.
