M.R.E – A quick, easy, calorie packed meal on the go.
If you’re like me, you like to find ways to make your life as simple as possible. This approach can be vital in an emergency. But in addition to simple and easy, when it comes to food you also want to make sure that you’re eating right and getting the vitamins, minerals and vital calories needed to give you the energy to cope with that emergency. These are exactly the needs the modern day MRE is designed to address.
MRE’s are not only a great option for an emergency, but also for camping, hiking, or other forms of outdoor activities. Personally, a MRE Ultimate Self-Heating Full Meal is my top choice when I hit the trail. When a sandwich and some trail mix were my common meal for out door activities, I always ended up burning through that food within a matter of hours. Now, when I have my MRE Full Meal it provides me with enough snacks as well as a hearty meal to keep me going all day long.
There were originally designed to address the military’s need for a quick and easy meal for personnel in the field. But are now also available to the general public.
On a daily basis I speak with former men and women who has served our great nation and have discovered The Ready Store and it’s great selection of MRE’s. Most military love MRE’s and The Ready Store is a place where they can purchase a dependable meal and enjoy the same great meals that they had when they were in the service.
If you have any friends or family that have served in the military, talk with them about MRE’s and see what they think. It might be interesting to get their take on MRE’s, ask them how they think they compare to Freeze-Dried food, (another popular, on the go emergency food option).
If they do not know what Freeze-Dried food is, then just direct them to our site where we have a vast amount of information on Freeze-Dried food and also we have YouTube videos like:

If you don’t have MRE’s yet,get a case.Having food and water on the fly is a must.I have a case of 72.I have a duffal bag I put them in.It’s one of my back up plans.I have canned food in the house to use,but if I have to get out Quick and don’t have the time to grab the food.I have my MRE’s in my safe zone.If you get the heater meals you will be 1 up on me.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:09 pmSo you have some choses.
1.get the MRE’s and water and put them in you safe zone and you tell no one about your stash.
2.You try and take your heavy canned food and water with you, your car brakes down, you get a flat,or the roads are whiped out and your on foot.Your stuck leaving all that food.MRE’s are light weight and you can take them on the go.Plan a head and you might have a chance.
3.You do nothing and hope for the best.I hope your good a fishing and hunting? You could hunt down bugs?Yum Yum.You will have to get alot to = 1,200 calories a day you need just to stay alive. If you have to work hard you will need more then 2,500 calories a day.
Use the 3-7 rule.3 days without water = death.7 days without food = death. And if your in a hot climate that number drops to 1-5.
I have MRE’s and they tast good.I’m not a big fan on some of the flavers, but it tast a hell of alot better then bugs. It’s food,it’s high in calories and protein, you don’t need to heat them up if your in a pinch to make a fire, and again light weight so you can take them on the go.
Spelling aside, I agree wholeheartedly with Dave W. I would just suggest that if you are planning a bugout scenario, then you probably ought to set up several “safe zones”. They should be remote from each other in case you’re unable to get to your primary location.
September 20th, 2010 at 11:59 amFood and water are only good up to a point. Don’t forget important papers, meds, tools and some means of physical protection.
I would also suggest that if you plan to live off of MRE’s for several days or weeks you might want to do a test run first to see how your digestive system responds. Constipation can really slow you down.
