Mountain House™ freeze-dried foods are second to none in terms of quality and taste. Freeze-Dried foods offer many advantages over dehydrated foods. To Begin with they taste much better because through the freeze-drying process the foods retain their taste, texture, and shape of fresh frozen foods. In addition, freeze-drying locks in the freshness, vitamins, nutrients, color, and aroma of fresh frozen foods while providing the shelf-stable convenience of canned and dehydrated foods.

All the contents of a Mountain House pouch are freeze dried to allow for a 10 year shelf life. Mountain House has also tested the pouches 30 years after the manufacture date and they were still safe to eat and good.

This is my favorite. We add some jalapeno's with some cheese on top. Better than Too-Jays chili.

This is plenty of food to fill up two very hungry people. I love the hot meal while hiking on a colder day. I do recommend that you bring salt for it though.

Great taste and value. I love these more than #10 cans because they are single servings instead of having to eat the entire can in a year. I have boxes full of these bags for emergencies. Now with Sandy aftermath, maybe people will start preparing for weather and climate changes. I would recommend starting prepping with these pouches for ease and convenience, not to mention good taste.

Mountain House Chili Mac with beef is an awesome product. It actually tastes like Chili instead of goulash/spaghetti like some of the other brands of Chili Mac. This is an excellent item that my house keeps in our food storage.

Love the chili mac

I fully expected this to be like Chef Boyardee style chili mac. Where the meal is more about noodles than anything. This style chili mac is more like an actual bowl of chili, with macaroni noodles mixed in. We enjoyed it very much, and it's probably my favorite MH meal of all. I've actually eaten this out of a pouch a couple times at the house just because I enjoyed it :P

Filling comfort food

The chili mac is one of my favorite Mountain House entrees. It has a good balance of beef, macaroni and beans, with a chili sauce that has a bit of a kick without burning one's tongue off. Chili mac is extra-tasty with a little bit of freeze-dried sweet corn added to the mix.

While we all enjoyed the flavor, I was a bit unsure why the "Mac" is in there. The Chili itself is absolute delish but only the few pieces of mac threw the dish off. This dish is still in my top 5 faves. A bit of a nice kick I might add... Might need for it to steep a few extra minutes for the macaroni to soften.

Noodle texture is excellent which makes the biggest plus with this dish. The flavoring is total comfort food. :)

Good enough to eat

This was as good as anything you could get in a can at the grocery store. The sauce was flavorful and the macaroni tender with a smooth texture. Not as good as homemade, but with the extra long shelf life, stand alone cooking pouch and ease of transport it is an exceptional value.
