I am glad to have this to add to my food storage. It's a nice chage from regular oatmeal without the hassle of looking for something to add to it.

The kids and my wife love peaches and cream oatmeal. This tastes just as good as store bought and it lasts so much longer.

Price is right, but the nutrition isn't.

I'm as lazy as the next gal, so I wish I could like this product enough to replace my homemade version of oatmeal and peaches, but I can't. The second ingredient here is sugar. I want to give my kids something for breakfast besides a sugar overdose. I'm not big on the maltodextrin and artificial flavor either, and even on sale, it's only break-even with the better version I put up for myself in mylar bags inside recycled #10 cans.

My recipe for 4 servings of oatmeal and peaches with cost breakdown is:

Organic Scottish oatmeal, whole milk powder (European and therefore rBST/rGBH-free), freeze-dried organic peaches, organic raw moscovado sugar, organic butter powder, sea salt, real vanilla extract. (Sugar in this is flavoring, not a main calorie souorce.)

$0.34 30 g Peak brand whole milk powder to make 1 cup milk
$0.28 144 g 1 c Bob's Red Mill organic Scottish oatmeal
(for rolled oats, it would be 1-1/3 c)
$1.92 20 g 1 c freeze-dried organic peaches bought in bulk
$0.20 3.5 g Organic butter powder (equivalent to 1 T butter)
$0.08 2 g 1/2 t coconut sugar + 20X vanilla (= 1/2 t extract)
$0.08 14 g 1 T organic blonde moscovado sugar
$0.01 2 g 1/2 t sea salt

$2.91 215.5 g for 4 servings
or
$0.73 for a 54 g serving
and that equals
$0.57 for a 42 g serving, the serving size quoted for this product.

So, the price on sale today is almost exactly what it costs me to make my own creamy oatmeal and peaches, but the quality of the ingredients and the nutrition doesn't compare well. Unfortunately, that's the usual story for any prepackaged food storage meals I've seen--they just aren't what I want to feed my family, and since I do regularly use and rotate my storage food, it doesn't make sense for me to argue any food would be better than no food in an emergency.

For me this is going to be a pass. I believe I'm usually better off sticking to making my own food storage convenience meals in big batches from basic ingredients, and this is not an exception. Of course, YMMV.

Another expensive breakfast choice.
Do you find this review helpful?  Yes No
This cereal is 33% sugar, almost as bad as the apple granola, and everything in it costs much less per can than what the combination is selling for, especially since the peaches are dehydrated, not freeze-dried. Buy cheap dried peaches from Rainy Day or elsewhere, or even expensive freeze-dried peaches, plus separate oats, whole milk powder, and sugar, and you can put together oatmeal and peaches in seconds much more cheaply, plus you'll have the option of as many other flavors of breakfast oatmeal as you have fruit and spices in storage to cook up.
