loved the beef straganoff
Very tasty!25 of 48 people found this review helpful
I'm assuming the contents in the Pro-Pak is the same as the #10 can, but this product is VERY tasty, and I'm quite picky, although new to freeze-dried foods. I expected an odd or unusual taste/after-taste, poor texture, but this stuff is fantastic! The beef to noodle ratio is perfect, and you even get little bits of onion, great texture, and extremely satisfying. Fresh is best, but I'd be super happy living on this in a pinch.
From The Ready Store:
Yes the food is the same from pouch to can.

Creamy & delicious11 of 22 people found this review helpful
I added a bit of thin sliced onion...sometimes diced green onion before I added the hot water. This disapears fast!
Satisfying2 of 2 people found this review helpful
This was the first freeze-dried food that my wife and I tried. It is very good and sticks to the ribs. I normally cant eat onions but the freeze-drying process seems to makes them more digestable for me. Don't know about anyone else. Very filling.
Not bad at all0 of 2 people found this review helpful
Not a big fan of straganoff but I purchase this for the family. I don't want food fatigue. I'm not a fan of onions but this was not bad. I would highly recommend it to break up the rice and beans. You could also add veggies to it and make it go further.
This is my favorite!!2 of 4 people found this review helpful
I've tried many of the Mountain House products and they are all quite good. However, I keep coming back to the beef stroganoff as a favorite. If I had to choose ONE product to eat forever, this would be the one!!
Another great meal!
Three and a half months of tent camping on an island, volunteering at a state park, does not give us much food selection and MH has proven to be a great answer. I think that the stroganoff is a great filling meal and we love it!
Fast, easy to prepare, and very tasty!
Truly excellent and tasty
You can easily forget that this product is designed for long term storage and "emergency" eating. My brother and I prepared this meal just to try it out as we've never eaten "ready food" before and were shocked at how good it was. If this were served to me in a restaurant like Fridays or the like I would have enjoyed my meal, happily paid the bill, and looked forward to the next visit. The beef, noodles, and mushrooms tasted as fresh as could be. I'll be storing more of this and rotating it into my weekly dinners.
A touch of class in a #10 can.
We just ordered your Beef Stroganoff to add a bit of specialness to the rest of our pantry preps. The ingredients sound delicious, the reviews are good and it's on sale - what else could you ask for?
Another Good Comfort Food Option
I did a review of Mountain House Chicken and Rice that started the same way this review of MH Beef Stroganoff is going to start: I was at my local WallyWorld and saw a small pouch of it, so I gave it a try. I like trying small amounts first - if it's awful, I won't feel so guilty about throwing it away. Like the MH Chicken and Rice, the Beef Stroganoff is comfort food. My grandmother made this when she cleaned out the freezer and found random pieces of steak, a few ounces of ground beef, etc. She'd brown it, add some cream of mushroom soup and cooked noodles, then throw the whole thing in a casserole dish and bake it. That is exactly what the MH Beef Stroganoff tastes like.
On another web site, I read a review of MH products, and the reviewer said that they were under-salted. Well, they should be. You will be using this to feed a variety of people; some of them will like salt, some will hate it. Some will want to add pepper or a few splashes of hot sauce, and some would get killer heartburn if they did. With MH products, you get to decide whether or not to spice it up. I am so impressed with Mountain House products! I am just about to buy a #10 can (or two) of the beef stroganoff. Having really good comfort food in a situation that might be very uncomfortable will be a blessing.
Very good flavor. Served this for my family of five freeze dried food skeptics and EVERYONE liked it. Two big eaters out of the five and the can fed all of us with some left over ... we ate more than the "serving size". I bought six more cans after this taste test. Good value on sale too!
Very nice addition
Family really liked the product it was one of the things we just opened and took on a 4 day campout W/ out trying so was glad it turned out good. My wife doesn't like the thick sauce as much so she thinned her's out a bit almost like a soup and was happy.
Everyone in my family loves Beef Stroganoff so this was a great choice for our food storage! I will be purchasing more of this!!
This product is very tasety and a good value when on sale. My 90 year old mother-in-law thinks it great too and is ordering to fix for herself since so good and easy. We will be ordering more for both of us.
This stroganoff is a fantastic 1. It is creamy and delicious. The can size is great for our family for a quick and easy meal. It also works perfect for longer term storage with the 25 year shelf life.
Better than the "real thing"...1 of 1 people found this review helpful
Frankly, I'd take this over most of the "real", homemade Beef Stroganoff dishes that I have tried over the years. The sour cream taste is not "cheesy" or overpowering; The beef rehydrates nicely w/o being overly chewy, but you MUST let it sit longer to absorb the water into the chunks. I would suggest you wait at least 12-14 minutes after rehydration before consuming it.
Additionally, I noticed that another reviewer commenting that this item came "soupy" when directions were followed "to a T". That, actually, is the problem: I have found that for the best results with this item and the other Mountain House products that I have tried, you actually need to use LESS water than is recommended by the manufacturer. Using 1 1/2 to (slightly less than) 1 3/4 cups H2O, as well as waiting the additional 4-5 minutes before eating helps to thicken up the sauce and improve the texture of the components.
My favorite of all the ones I have tried. Soooo good.
It was Great!38 of 73 people found this review helpful
The only cons there are the fact that it contains alot of sodium, and it only lasts for a week after opening.
From The Ready Store:
Mountain House states a very conservative number. It will last much longer than a week if you keep the cap on or better yet you put it in a zip lock bag and push the air out when you seal it. We eat Mountain House and Saratoga Farms meals all of the time that have been opened for 6-12 months.
Hope that helps and thanks for leaving your review.

I have no idea, I haven't received it yet and when I do, I hope not to open it any time soon.
Not impressed!31 of 60 people found this review helpful
I've been saving my long-term cans for an actual emergency so I never got around to tasting anything. Over the weekend, I had 'nothing in the house' despite a room full of food. You know how it goes... so, I popped open a can of the Mountain House Beef Stroganoff.
While I realize these things are sold by weight, not volume, the can was literally 3/4 of the way full at best. Sure, some settling should take place, but they could seriously fit 3 or 4 more cups of food in each can I think. When space is an issue in my storage room, this rubs me the wrong way.
I was a bit disappointed with the mixture. It was a bit too soupy and never really thickened up despite following the instructions on can to a T. Ehh, it's no five star dinner, but it's more than edible. An hour later I had wicked gas. And shortly there after, it went completely through me.
Now, I don't have the toughest stomach around by any means, but this stuff killed me. To make sure it wasn't a fluke, I had another serving the next day. Same thing. Within 2 hours I was on the throne getting deyhdrated....
Needless to say, I'm probably not going to want to eat this when TP, flushing toilets are not around, and even staying hydrated are key to living.
The 7 day after opening shelf life is way shorter than I expected. Looks like I'll be on the can the rest of the week if anyone needs me....
From The Ready Store:
The cans state to eat within 7 days but we eat it months and months after that, you just have to keep the lid on it or even better yet put the food in a zip lock bag and push the air out then return the bag to the can. In our breakroom where we have piles of dented cans (thanks FedEx!) we have eaten out of cans that are over 12 months old and they were 100% fine. As for your flatulence issue you can try eating some rice (or other non gassy food) on the side and then serve up a little less stroganoff.
As for getting a bit more bang for your buck, the Saratoga Farms can line has on average just under twice the servings per can so it is a more cost effective way to store food.
