This is like a upgrade from the flat folding stove, but it is still cheap enough. The major difference is that you can use more than just fuel tablets with this stove, which is great because eventually you will run out of tablets!

Pretty cool, I've seen variations of this build using aluminum cans, great idea, saves you the time of making your own especially if you are "Craft Challenged". Very cool addition.

Lightweight, tiny, portable, and functional. I've used this stove with tablets and with alcohol and it works great. I've tried it with white gas also and had mixed results. Depending (I think) on the temperature (warmer worked better), white gas seemed to work out alright but it took a lot of priming to get it going. I would highly recommend this to anyone for a bug out kit. Alcohol is readily available and gas can be found all over the place.

I can't afford the expense of the bigger, fancier emergency stoves, so this is a good alternative.

Benefits & Description

Cook Anywhere | Dual Power Sources | Simple to Use

Make Emergency Preparedness Convenient

Sturdy construction is simple to use and very durable. Get Your Money's Worth
Inexpensive emergency cooking solution! Enjoy Versatility and Convenience
Use either fuel tablets or readily available alcohol. The Vargo Titanium Triad XE is a dual-fuel (alcohol / fuel tab) stove. The XE was designed for weight-conscious backpackers that recognize the advantages and disadvantages of burning denatured alcohol. Specifically, denatured alcohol does not burn as well in high altitude (generally over 11,000 feet) or very cold temperatures (below 20 degrees F). In these situations burning fuel tabs is recommended.

Characteristics of burning alcohol in the XE include intense heat during the priming stage and moderate heat once primed. Once primed the stove is very fuel efficient, using very little alcohol. In general, the XE can be used effectively in any condition, making it a stove that we believe sets a higher standard in ultralight hiking.

Recent events like Hurricane Katrina have opened our eyes to the responsibility we have ourselves to ensure our family’s safety and security in the midst of disaster:

“Americans rightly asked, if this is the way our government responds to a natural disaster it knew about days in advance, how would it respond to a surprise terrorist attack? How would it respond to an earthquake?” --Russ Carnahan
