Saved my booth!
358 of 712 people found this review helpfulSo I run a craft booth at my church fair every summer & last year my tent almost was blown away! Talking over with one of my girl friends she told me to use my water containers I had in my food storage. Never really intended to use them like that but I gave it a go & my tent stayed firm & the kids loved the crafts.

Perfect for water storage in my small home!
377 of 734 people found this review helpfulI looked around for the best way to store water in my space-challenged home. I love the stacking feature of these jugs! I use the water preserver sold on this site, and stack these containers easily in the corners of my closets. You can't do that with a jug with a spout on top! I also bought a couple spigots sold on this site and taped them to the side so that they will be handy when I need to use the water. Plus, I love that they are light enough for me to carry when full. Highly recommend this product!

Excellent Product
352 of 676 people found this review helpfulI filled 10 of these last week for my family of four and can't begin to describe the piece of mind knowing that I have enough water for 2 weeks. I like that these are extremely portable in case we have to evacuate -- not sure how I'd ever manage moving a 55 gallon tank, especially if I happened to be alone at home with my 2 toddlers. The portable size also makes them very easy to store in random places throughout the house. I used one bottle of water preserver for all the bottles, so am good for the next 5 years!

Excellent product!
279 of 535 people found this review helpfulI just completed filling eighteen of these units using the water preserver also sold here. They are excellent in their design and construction and the stacking feature is what sold me on these. I used and recommend a rubber strap wrench (available at auto parts stores) to get the caps nice and tight, and didn't have any issues with leaks. I will definitely buy some more in the nearfuture

Solid portable container!
271 of 514 people found this review helpfulI had been looking for some nice 5-gallon containers to store water in for ease of use (Compared to a 55-gallon drum!) and bought 8 of these. This product is great heavy duty, has a strong seal, and stacks well. Although thereadystore forgot to ship the caps with my order I called customer service and they were very polite, listened well, and apologized. They shipped out the 8 caps and I received them six days later. I will shop here again... actually I already have.
On a side note to buyers: I recommend buying extra caps. Although these are very well built, it is always good to have extras if one cracks from long term wear and tear. As with all parts that are mechanical or experience wear and tear, buy spares!3/31/11

a query, actually, if anyone cares to respond ...
248 of 480 people found this review helpfulI'm considering replacing the water jugs at the cabin because they impart a plastic taste to the water. Do these water jugs impart any plastic taste after long periods of storage?

Same question as the one below...
243 of 455 people found this review helpfulI love the portability and stackability of these water jugs... I was just hoping that there would be a response to the question left by Jambie below. If the water is stored in these jugs for a long time, will the water end up tasting and smelling like plastic? Thanks for your response, and I look forward to purchasing a bunch of these containers.
From The Ready Store:
Dean, any plastic container if stored on concrete will eventually take on a different flavor. You can avoid this by putting a layer in between like plywood, carpet, or other similar materials.

Look no further
217 of 426 people found this review helpfulSomeone put a lot of thought in designing these containers and whoever it was should get a weeks paid vacation. My water storage plan included containers that would be portable, easy to manuever, stackable to save space, durable and of good quality. This container meets every expectation I have. The only preparatory task you have to do is drill a small vent hole and rinse the container out. Then fill it with water. I purchased a couple spare lids, a couple spigots and the water preserver which will provide for a longer shelf life of the water. I highly recommend this water container - 5 stars.

A "must buy!"
97 of 181 people found this review helpfulLove them! Easy to move to where water will be used. Easy to store. I figure on using one container per day for our family of three just for drinking and cooking. Have not tipped them on their side to use yet.
I would suggest getting a couple extra lids and spouts so you have them set up before you need them, one for use in the kitchen and one for upstairs.
I ordered four which came in one box. I will order eight more as I am able. It feels nice to finally be somewhat prepared for any disaster.12/22/11

Excellent product, excellent service!
58 of 109 people found this review helpfulOne thing only. I was also interested in a "dispensing pump" for the drums. Your syphon pump did not fill my needs, so I searched and found "plastic pail pumps" that I could use to access the stored water in a convenient way. You might consider carrying these.
From The Ready Store:
John, how did the syphon not meet your need? Feel free to email me at genek at thereadystore .com with product feedback.

Problems, but still the Best Option
20 of 37 people found this review helpfulI bought 6 of these water containers a little over 5 years ago. As the other reviews have stated these are excellent for water storage space efficiency. Their square shape and stacking ability make them ideal for getting as much water into the corner of your preparedness space as possible, while still giving your the option of being able to move the water. They are also very durable and well designed.
Of my 6 containers only 1 has had a leak problem I could not fix with repeated attempts to tighten or switch lids, which started about 3 years ago. 1 defect out of 6 in 5 years is not too bad.
The spigot did not come with a lid with the hole bored, nor its own seal gasket, so order an extra lid and be prepared to drill or cut. I used a styrofoam ring from the top of a new pack of DVDs to seal the spigot connection and it has worked great for years now.
As for the taste, when I first got these containers, the taste of plastic was overpowering and obvious. It took a couple years of replacing the water over and over as I originally used them as my rotating emergency/daily water supply. Now they have a very faint taste of plastic that is almost subtle and sweet.
As a daily supply it can be tedious or difficult for women or the elderly to move or adjust their position. In my house we would always rest it on its side to dispense water and then tip it back so the lid was on top when not in use since the leak I had was a slow one and i didn't think to label the leaky container until later. If this was forgotten we found a large puddle in the morning. Also the rather thin handles tend to hurt your hand when carrying them any distance full. I have yet to widen the grip or rubberize them, but I may try.
Despite these problems I have yet to find any better, BPA free, stackable, 5 gallon, sturdy containers. I plan to purchase 10 more soon.5/3/12

Great Product
8 of 13 people found this review helpfulPerfect! With a weight of approximately 42Lbs. when filled, this container is light enough to move and store easily. The container appears to be very durable, an important feature for long-term water storage. Also, the container's opacity allows me to store my water outdoors under my carport without being concerned about light exposure. The Ready Store's price is the lowest I've found for this type of container, which is a great help with the budget.

Good
2 of 3 people found this review helpfulThese are nice to have around for just in case, any bigger and I would not be able to handle the weight, so this fits nicely. Fantastic
2 of 3 people found this review helpfulThese containers are heavy duty and do not smell once rinsed with a little (very little) bleachy water.
I bought a Coleman 5 gal water container a couple years ago and we will NOT use! After several washes, even airing outside with lid off, it still smells like petro chemicals... so it is on the patio filled 3/4 full (in case of freeze) to flush the toilet with!

Big water drums were a drag

Good containers for my purposes
233 of 456 people found this review helpfulI got 11 of these containers recently and have filled them up and stored them in my basement (with Water Preserver). It's good to know that I've got potable water if the need should arise. These containers are well made, very sturdy, and darker blue than the picture shown (probably a good thing - more opaque). They are the perfect size - large enough that you don't have to have a ridiculous amount of them - but small enough that they are easily portable. I was able to move two at a time down to my basement. The lids fit very tightly.
My one complaint would be that 5 of the 11 lids I got had at least some sections of the tamper-proof ring broken off - none completely, but a few were just barely still attached. I'm not going to bother buying replacement lids since I'm not really that concerned that it'll be tampered with, but a little surprising. I do wish I had purchased a spigot though - now I have to pay S&H for just that one item.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if I feel like I needed them. Good product.5/27/11

Good Product - Slow delivery and poor communication
202 of 374 people found this review helpfulThe quality of this product and its accessories are outstanding without a doubt. However, the price is a bit high but worthwhile for the intended purpose. My only complaint is the delivery time. After some searching on the website I discovered that shipments are generally completed two weeks after ordering. This was recently changed to three weeks. My delivery of four containers took almost five weeks to receive. To make matters worse, some other items as part of the order are on back order. The back order was also advised to me on the invoice received with the shipment. Disappointed with service and delivery time. Please be up front with customers and communicate better, not leaving people in the dark on their orders. We should not have to follow up numerous time on order status.
From The Ready Store:
Stephen, we do have the estimated ship dates when you put an item in the shopping cart. When they are long times they are bolded and in red. Right now we are down to under a week and the ship time message is bolded and in green font. On the other hand, competitors usually only say if the item is going to ship in normal production or it is on backorder, whereas we actually put specific ship times for EACH product so in my opinion we actually have the most accurate and detailed information out there.
Thanks,

A tad pricey but can't be beat if space is an issue
0 of 1 people found this review helpfulYou can get 6-gallon UN-stackable food-grade water containers for a good bit less at any retail outlet, but if you plan on storing 50+ gallons or so, you can't beat these for the stacking/space issue it solves. Also, since water is about 7 lbs per gallon if you're going to be mobile, most people can carry these even if full and if you have a bad back - as I do. The sealing screw-top lid is a great feature as well since you know if it has been opened or tampered with. My only suggestion would be to add or sell replacement caps separately to make these easy to re-use. They're made of very thick plastic and appear quite durable.

Leaks

Can buy less expensive
1 of 3 people found this review helpfulSorry "Ready Store"; this one is a NO for me. Walmart has almost the same thing (AquaTainer by Reliance) for under $12, and each one comes with a spigot under the cap. They are also stackable 2-high, which is all I recommend on this type, too. I saved over $50 when I bought 10 of them for short-term water storage. Hoping to save the customers some money with this review. Again, sorry!
From The Ready Store:
Clifford,
I just went to Walmart.com and did a search for "aquatainer by Reliance" and noticed that it's $19 not $12, maybe you got it on sale?
Something else I noticed in comparing these two products is theirs is only 4 gallons as opposed to 5 gallons with our container. Also ours is not transparent which means that bacteria growth would happen much sooner in the AquaTainer which makes ours better for emergency water storage. Walrmart.com does state the AquaTainer was designed to be put in fridges for dispensing drinking water so it looks like the two products are not as similar as they seem.
Thanks,
